Khush stepped out, all ready to go. “Is everything all right between the two of you?” he enquired.
“Oh, so it was you in the room with mom,” remarked Natasha.
“Why would I allow you to infringe on someone’s privacy?” said Swapna.
“This means Harry has ditched you and you have had to hire a Don Juan for yourself,” countered Natasha.
“Don’t worry, ma, you’re doing the right thing. I do the same when Anita ditches me.”
“So you’re calling me names? Yes, I agree, but I don’t do it for money. I enjoy it when my partners need me. Especially ladies in distress,” said Khush.
“That explains it well, Khush! I need you to save me from my craving for Harry. I have to get rid of the attachment. You are helping me like Anita is helping Harry.”
“Harry is ditching you,” repeated Natasha.
“No, my child, no one’s ditching anyone, we don’t believe in relationships, they are not trendy anymore. The trend among women today is to go for variety, exactly like men do.”
“Wow! I have never heard that before,” said Khush.
“Gender equality,” said Swapna.
“Yes, mom, even I like variety.”
“Ah, yes, we know that,” said Khush.
“Please keep your opinions to yourself, this is between mother and daughter,” said Natasha.
“Okay. I have to hurry. There’s no time to get into same old arguments with you.”
Khush planted a quick kiss on Swapna’s cheek and hurried off to the elevator. He was thinking about Aneesha and Shamiq. It was already past midnight and hopefully they’d be in bed before he returned.
He opened the door and to his surprise they were right there, on either side of the hallway floor, completely exhausted. A funny-looking object lay close by, it was a double-headed tool. Khush smiled and looked at them again. They were unaware of their surroundings, as if they had passed out. His smile grew into a big grin as he walked into his room.
